Site inspections across Great Britain focusing on moving and handling materials - 4th Sept

Construction sites are being targeted as part of HSE’s latest health inspection initiative supported by the 'Work Right Construction: Your health. Your future' campaign.

The campaign is raising awareness of health issues in relation to moving and handling materials to improve the long-term health of those working in construction.

Site inspections started on Monday 4 September and will run for 8 weeks.

The inspections will be looking at many areas, at both employers and the site teams. They will be checking to make sure that everyone:

• Knows the risks involved with the tasks they are doing.

• Has tried to plan the works to Eliminate or Substitute the risks where they can.

• When they cant get rid of the risks that they have put sensible control measures in place to try and prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

We all know that what we do at work affects our home life as well, and the purpose of this campaign is to try and improve the quality of life for all of those exposed to this type of risks.

The HSE have provided a set of resources on their website that can be used to try and prepare your site, and we will be sending out a Safety Bulletin on this for our members in the next week or so.

Workers should not have to accept these aches, pains and strains and potential long-term suffering as an inevitable part of construction work.
